The world's most powerful earthquake in more
than 40 years struck deep under the Indian Ocean
off the west coast of Sumatra, triggering massive
tsunamis that obliterated villages and seaside
resorts in more than 10 countries. Tourists,
fishermen, homes and cars were swept away by walls
of water that rolled across the Bay of Bengal,
unleashed by the 9-magnitude quake.
As the New Year dawned, millions of tsunami
survivors, who were already struggling to cope
with a catastrophic disaster, were plagued by
unrelenting rainfall, flash floods and severe
aftershocks in the wake of the 9.0-magnitude
earthquake that struck Dec. 26. Meanwhile, world
governments and humanitarian organizations
continue mounting what will likely become the
largest disaster relief operation in history.
President Bush on Monday tapped two former
presidents -- his father, President George H.W.
Bush, and his predecessor, President Clinton -- to
lead a nationwide fund-raising campaign to help
victims of the Asian tsunamis.
"I ask every American to contribute as they are
able to do so," Bush said in the White House's
Roosevelt Room, the two former presidents at his
side.
Clinton and the first President Bush are to lead
an effort to encourage the American people and
American businesses to support, through private
contributions, non-governmental and international
organizations relief and reconstruction to areas
devastated by the tsunamis, the president said.
"In the coming days, Presidents Clinton and Bush
will ask Americans to donate directly to reliable
charities already providing help to tsunami
victims," Bush said. "I've asked the former
presidents to solicit contributions both large and
small."
The president urged Americans to give money
instead of other items. "Cash donations are most
useful," he said.
Terralert has heard the call and is responding
with immediate action by dedicating incoming
revenue. Terralert Currently supports the
National Missing Children / AMBER Alert service by
using all revenue from the National Alert Portal.
Any additional funds needed are covered by
Terralert unquestioningly. Terralert will be
dedicating 25% of the funds from subscribers of
the National Alert Portal as a direct “CASH”
donation to the American Red Cross.
Terralert, Inc. CEO Peter J. Barclay “This method
of collecting money will ensure we provide
coverage for both needs. I am so glad that we are
able to expand our donation capabilities. This
provides hope that we will be able to expand even
further to provide donations to many other
causes.”
