Santa Cruz Police Department
has launched a new internet based alerting system
for Missing and "Amber" children. Ten alert, Inc.
has developed and provided the software at no
charge for all users. The purpose of the program
is to provide immediate notifications of missing
children to hospitals, businesses, and residents.
The system has been
integrated with Microsoft's Passport, Bound, and
MSN instant message users. Other service providers
are expected to be on board in the near future.
This system will link any
personal computer, cell phone, or handheld device
to the National Children Alert Service. Recipients
are sent alert fliers for those children missing
in their area within minutes of abduction. The
program is further designed to prevent recipients
from receiving unwanted messages or SPAM. Thu is a
no fee subscription based service which adds to
the existing Amber Alert services today.
Lt. Joe Haebe, "This service
enhances police ability to provide critical
information on abducted children or children at
risk to a wide audience in a timely manner. It
encourages community involvement and is an
integral part of our Community Based Policing
philosophy."
