  Prevention of acquaintance abductions

Research analysis shows that parental abductions account for the largest number of acquaintance abductions among children. Parental abductions can be avoided if both the parents handle the divorce or mutual disagreements in a respectful and responsible manner. Quite often children become the victims of mutual disagreements and domestic violence. It is the primary responsibility of the parents to see that the child is brought up in a healthy environment, both physically and mentally.

Yet if situations warrant a divorce, it should be handled in a responsible way by the parents. Parental abductions can be prevented if certain things are taken care of such as:

Prevention:

  • Children should be taught to follow a pre set schedule of visits to the other parent.

  • Make sure that the child knows your telephone number, and informs you of any changes in the scheduled visit.

  • Parents should encourage open communication with the child; let the child know that there should not be any secrets kept from one another.

  • Partners should respect each other’s relationship with the child.

  • Partners should maintain relationship with the family and friends of each other.

  • Partners should maintain a record of all the court documents.

  • Both the partners should be aware of the current procedures of the court.

This way by following the above-discussed preventive measures both the partners can survive the ordeal of divorce and reduce the pressure of an traumatic experience of the divorce on the children.
