While there is a
growing trend or rather disturbing trend of child
abductions. And equally growing concern for the safety
and security of their children among the parents, a few
common sense, general safety tips can help parents to
prevent the risk of child abductions.
Here are some:
-
Parents should keep a tab on
child’s movements at all times, make sure you be
informed about your child’s new friends, and the
places they visit.
-
Parents should never leave their
children in an automobile unattended.
-
Show genuine interest in your
child’s activities and participate actively in his
activities.
-
Listen to what your child has to
say. Give a chance to the child to air his opinions
without fear.
-
Keep observing whether any
stranger is showing any unwanted attention I your
child by offering any gifts to him. Take time to know
about that person from the child.
-
Parents should teach children to
say NO to any unwelcome, uncomfortable or confusing
touch by others.
-
Parents should be attentive and
responsive to any changes in the behavior of the
child. Encourage the child to disclose his disturbing
feelings with parents.
-
Extra care and effort has to go
into the selection of baby sitter for your child.
-
Parents should practice basic
safety skills with the child.
-
As parents, being available and
taking time to really know and listen to the child
helps build feelings of safety and security.
As a society, our efforts to
prevent crimes against children have not kept pace with
the increasing vulnerability of our children. After
hearing the tragic stories about abducted or exploited
children, most parents are surprised to learn that many
crimes against children can be prevented.
But with a little bit caution and
common sense parents can prevent the risk of child
abductions successfully. |
